Rude people!!!?

March 13th, 2007 at 12:30 am

Did my big grocery shopping today. This will last us for a couple of weeks except for milk, fresh fruit, etc. I spent $162.00, and saved $32.00 with coupons(added to challenge total). Not too bad for a family of 5 I don't guess.
When I was checking out two of my items rung up incorrectly, and I had the cashier correct it. After all of that was straightened out, I handed him my coupons Smile He didn't seem to have a problem with it, but I could feel an 'icy stare' boreing a hole in the back of my head! When I was done the woman behind me said "Finally!"
My DH said I should wear a shirt that reads 'If you are in a hurry, don't get behind me'. LOL!!! I just like my groceries to scan what the shelf price reads. Wink
Total challenge money...$849.00

I usually just turn around and smile and say, "I always forget how much longer coupons take but , but with this kind of money at stake its worth it". The more innocently and sweetly you can say something like that the better.

I know I'm horrid to be behind when I'm in savvy shopper mode, but it balances the time I get someone searching the bottom of their purse for a penny....

I know the feeling! It's one thing if, as a customer, you're disputing something or carrying on about something that's out of the cashier's control, but you weren't. C'est la vie.

If there had been a mistake on HER bill, she probably would have wanted it corrected! I like shopping on offpeak times cos I don't have to run into people in a hurry. Good for you for being diligent and saving money.

my DH commented that all eyes were on my total when the coupons were being scanned. Big Grin Oh well, when I'm in coupon mode, I don't really care if some one has to wait a few minutes. If they get that upset over something so miniscule (sp?), then they need to get a life.

Yummy...I didn't want to even look at her. I'm oblivious Smile

    3bean...Yes, calm, cool, and collected.

Jan...you're right, I'm sure she would have wanted it corrected.

Shadon...I was a little offended, but I was on my 'coupon high', so she didn't bring me down.

    Amber...I agree. No clue.

Daylily...I guess she has nothig better to do Wink
Ima...we don't have that option at this particular store yet.

I have found that the self=check out machines are so much easier to use. You scan it yourself and if you find a mistake the cashier that is overlooking everything normally will take you and your receipt to customer service right away without having to wait in long lines. Also, the machine doen't look at every i and t crossed on the coupons. The machine reads and scans the bar code and that's it. No cashier arguing with you that you can't use a coupon when you know that you can.

The worst if a cashier who just refuses to be polite or even look at you much less smile. I will try to get the cashier to smile. I'll tell them, there's so getting you to smile today and they even at that point will ignor you. Why stores keep people like that around, I'll neve know. If that's the first time in a store and that cashier acts like that, that's the impression of the store that you keep in your mind.

If I have a stack of coupons I'll turn around when someone gets on line behind me and say "Fair warning, I have A LOT of coupons." If they are in a hurry, they will choose another line, usually with a fast thanks tossed over their shoulders as the flee.

Robin, I'll have to do that! Good advice. How fast do they run when you tell them that you have coupons? Big Grin

Yes, I do that too littlemama. I let others behind me know that I have coupons and that they may want to go in to another line. Also, if I see that they have just a couple of items and that they're not being pushy, I'll let them go in front of me as long as they car paying CASH. Cash is the operative word, not debit or credit card where it might no bo through and you can be there for another 5 or 10 minutes waiting for a manager to check it out or to OK it.
