I don't know what to do

My stepfather recently passed away . My mother was married to him for nine years. When she called last Friday to tell me I rushed out the door to be by her side. The three hour drive seemed to take an eternity. We stayed the week and my kids missed four days of school.

I feel helpless. I want to help her, but feel I'm doing nothing. I wan't to make it all better, but cant.

We just got back yesterday, and are going back today to help out with paperwork (and emotional support).

    I am sorry for your loss. When my Dad died, I was pretty depressed myself because it was unexpected and happened quickly. What I did do was call my mother every day to talk. We talked a lot about Dad and lots of other things. I did my best to let her talk and get back to laughing and living. I would suggest just being there for her, either in person, on the phone, email etc. It will help you too!! Take care.

    ((hugs)) There isn't much you can "do" do, but be there, as Myrtle says...and, although it doesn't feel like you're doing much, it does help!

    yeah thats a tough spot. Being there to help with paperwork and guide her through the process of funeral and decisions is all you can do right now. I suggest she not make any lifestyle or big decisions right now- and not for several months to maybe a year. Just let the dust settle before deciding anything about money, moving or big changes. good luck.

    I am very sorry to hear that. Please take care of yourself and I'm sure your mom will appreciate it enough with you simply being there.
