There's some truth to that.

February 18th, 2008 at 02:17 pm

Yesterday my DH and I were trying to make some room in the fridge, and I pulled out our 1/2 gallon ketchup container (we make BBQ sauce out of it also) and realised that there wasn't much left. I opened it up and started scraping the sides and bottom to get the last bit out to put in a smaller container. I told my husband that this was really sad - most people would just throw the container away. (But we have never really been "most people") Smile Anyway, after a short pause he chuckled. I asked him what he was laughing at and he replied "is it sad that you have a paid for SUV?" WOW! Big reality check! He's a good man.

Adding $2.00 for no heat/A.C. and $4.00 for coupon savings, bringing the total to $899.00.

Here's to not being 'most people'.

Good comeback from the husband!!! Really puts it into perspective.

Most people's grandparents would have scraped out that container. I can clearly picture my grandparents, my friends' grandparents (when I was a child), my husband's grandmother scraping for every last bit of food. Leaner days taught more careful use of every resource.

    Good for you!

Right now there's a Tupperware-type container in my bathroom. It's holding the 2 halves of the sunscreen tube that I cut in half after shaking and squeezing out what to most people would have been the last bit ... By the time I'm done scraping out what was clinging to the inside of the tube, I should get an extra 5 or 6 uses!

I have a paid for car, and will be paying for my house in cash!

So here's to not being most people!

Here I don't feel so much as the odd man out. Smile

My parents never let anything go to waste - good for all of you who have been able to pay off vehicles and homes. I just read David Ramsey's "The Total Money Makeover" - and he says "live like no one else does so you can live like no one else does" - how true!

I love Dave Ramsey. He is the reason my Dh and I are so motivated.

quote: "scfr: My moisturizer tube is cut in half!"

This is one of the moments when I feel like doing the happy dance and yelling "I'm not a freak after all ... Or, if I am a freak, at least I have company!" Smile

Some crazy people who live in my house throw the toothpaste tube away - I dig it out of the trash, (yes I rinse it off - tell them HEY, WHO THREW THIS AWAY??????) then cut off the end and get four or five more brushings every time.

Okay Lux, I've done that before too. Just the other day my 13 y.o. son said he needed more deod. I got him some out of my closet stash (free with coupons stash). Later I noticed his old one in the trash and I don't know what made me look but there was still some left!!! It wasn't even near the plastic thingie!
I proceded to track him down, and show him (as if he didn't know). He looked at me as if I had totally lost it! And this is the kid who tells me to drink generic sodas to save money. LOL. He really is a good kid tho.

Hahaha - This am I pulled a tube of TP out of the trash that had 5 squares left on it! Can't believe DH tossed it! I pulled off the outer square (it had been sitting in the trash after all) and walked up to him waving the roll w/ the still perfectly good 4 squares. I told him that I am trying to support him in his dream to try out for the senior golf tour when he hits 50, that I am trying to figure out just how much moolah we will need for him to do that, and we had better save every penny we can, so please don't do that ever again! He gave me a belly laugh and told me I was right ... Of course I was right! Smile

I'm glad I'm not alone... people often wonder if I was raised with depression era grand parents or something... I never waste things. It pains me to throw away empty containers without doing a complete inspection to make sure every last drop is out! Good for you all!
